NANAIMO NEWCOMERS’ CLUB WELCOMES YOU!
We are so happy you are here! All of us within recent years have been through a move to Nanaimo and the adjustment that this entails. You have come to the right place to talk with people who “have been there”. The good news is that you do not have to do it alone. For the past thirty-five years NNC has been a lifeline for women settling in Nanaimo. Our membership is composed of women retired, widowed, divorced, or newly relocated to Nanaimo.
VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION
“Newcomers Club” was born when women, who had themselves experienced the challenges of long-distance moves, decided to help each other. Today Newcomers is a worldwide organization, with clubs all over the world. Belonging to Newcomers means immediate contact with other people who can empathize with the challenges of those first few months. At Newcomers, you will find a warm welcome and a wealth of knowledge to help you find your feet, as well as many different ways to enjoy yourself in your new community.
NNC is organized and run by its volunteer members. The success of the club is tied directly to the work of those members who volunteer by coordinating activities or serving on the Executive. It takes a village to make this club successful!
ACTIVITIES
Activities are the heart of our Nanaimo Newcomers’ Club. NNC has over two dozen activities that cover a wide range of interests. Each person's skill level may be different but you do not have to be an expert in order to participate, just join in for fun and friendship and try something new. Through events and activities, the Club enables women to become part of our community by forging friendships, participating in a wide range of activities, sharing experiences, and having fun together.
MEETINGS
Our regular meetings occur the second Tuesday of the month from September to June. Each month will have a theme with speakers and discussions. As “making new friends” is our main purpose, the majority of the meeting is social. As a member, you will receive our Monthly Newsletter outlining our monthly activities, events happening in Nanaimo, interviews with our members and much more. Members will also receive a directory which includes other members contact information and an opportunity to join our Facebook Members Only “Nanaimo Newcomers Club” pages, and the ability to use “Members Only” on our webpage nanaimonewcomersclub.org
We moved to Nanaimo from Ottawa three years ago to be with our children and grandchildren. However, I realized the importance of also trying to establish a new life with new friendships for myself. Newcomers immediately provided me with that fabulous feeling of belonging. Joining this club made the transition to my new community very seamless.
On behalf of the NNC Executive and all of our Membership, welcome to our wonderful city and to our Club!
In Friendship,
Bev Taylor, President
