The Nanaimo Newcomers’ Club is a non-denominational, non-profit social group for women. We are comprised of diverse women representing a range of cultures, beliefs, ages and life experiences, where all are welcomed. Launched in 1985, the club is overseen by an executive board and activity coordinators who are all volunteers. We offer a wide variety of activities to participate in, many which take place during the day, with some evening and weekend events too.
We are listed members with NNAC, the National Newcomers' Association of Canada.
The purpose of the Nanaimo Newcomers' Club is to share common interests, foster friendships, and encourage the development of a sense of community through social interaction in a variety of activities. This is an unalterable women-only club.
The club meets in a spirit of collaboration, thriving on the contributions of members who volunteer to share their interests and passions as activity coordinators or who serve on the executive board or other committees. We treat each other with respect and dignity, with each member having an equal opportunity to participate and communicate her ideas. We promote an environment of advocacy and support to develop a sense of belonging and cultivate friendships.
There is a monthly Club Social gathering in addition to the various activities our members organize through the year. The Club Social take place on the second Tuesday of each month (September thru June) at the Royal Canadian Legion #256 Branch Lounge, 1630 East Wellington Road, Nanaimo. We get underway at 7pm but you are invited to come early (doors open at 5:15) to meet some new friends while enjoying a beverage or bite. The Club Socials often feature a guest speaker and you’ll hear about the club’s ongoing activities and upcoming special events too. We do not have Club Socials in July and August, but many of our member volunteers continue to host activities to participate in through the summer months.
Eligibility for membership is open to women who within the last three years, have moved to Nanaimo or who have experienced a recent life change (widowed or divorced).
Annual membership is $40
(there may be additional fees to participate in some activities)
Prospective members are invited to attend one club social to learn more about the club and activities offered.
Full membership is required to participate in activities other than your first club social.
