The Nanaimo Newcomers’ Club is a non-denominational, non-profit social group for all women who have moved to Nanaimo and area within the last three years or have experienced a recent life change (recently widowed or divorced). The club was launched in 1985 and is run by an executive board and activity coordinators who are all volunteers.
We are listed members with the National Newcomers Association of Canada.
The purpose of the Nanaimo Newcomers' Club is to welcome women who are new to the Nanaimo area (within the last three years, or have experienced a recent life change (recently widowed or divorced) to share common interests, foster friendships, and encourage the development of a sense of community through social interaction in a variety of activities. This is an unalterable women-only club.
The club meets in a spirit of collaboration. We work together and socialize together, with each member having an equal opportunity to participate and communicate her ideas. We treat each other with respect and dignity. The club is comprised of diverse women representing a range of cultures, beliefs, age and life experiences, where all are welcomed. We are also a community of women sharing the common thread of being new to Nanaimo or having experienced change. As such, we develop an environment of advocacy and support: a sense of belonging, which cultivates friendships.
2022/2023 – Please join us on the second Tuesday of each month (September thru June)at the Royal Canadian Legion #256 Branch Lounge, corner of East Wellington and Bowen Roads, 1630 East Wellington Rd., Nanaimo, BC. The doors open at 5:15 p.m. and food and drinks are available for cash purchase at the bar; the meeting begins at 7:00. We invite you to register, meet our greeters, visit with some of our members, find out more about our club, and see the variety of activities we offer.
Meetings are social and informal, usually with a speaker or activity; you can relax with a coffee or a drink while learning about what Nanaimo has to offer. You’ll hear about the club’s special events, make new acquaintances, and connect with others. While NNC does not meet in July and August, many of our members continue to participate in a number of activities throughout the summer.
You are welcome to join if you have been a resident of Nanaimo or surrounding area for three years or less or have experienced a recent life change (recently widowed or divorced). You may attend one of our meetings before deciding to become a member, or you may join at the first meeting and participate in everything!
Annual membership is $35.
Our members come from across Canada, indeed from all over the world. Many of our activities take place during the day, but there are also some evening and weekend events. Our goal is to provide opportunities for everyone to participate.
