About Us

Who We Are

Our Core Values

Our Purpose

Nanaimo Newcomers' Club members taking to the waves

The Nanaimo Newcomers’ Club is a non-denominational, non-profit social group for all women who have moved to Nanaimo and area within the last three years. The club was launched in 1985 and is run by an executive board and activity coordinators who are all volunteers.

We are listed members with the National Newcomers Association of Canada.

Our Core Values

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Nanaimo Newcomers' Club is to welcome women who are new (within the last three years) to the Nanaimo area to share common interests, foster friendships, and encourage the development of a sense of community through social interaction in a variety of activities. This is an unalterable women-only club.

Our Core Values

Our Core Values

The club meets in a spirit of collaboration. We work together and socialize together, with each member having an equal opportunity to participate and communicate her ideas. We treat each other with respect and dignity. The club is comprised of diverse women representing a range of cultures, beliefs, age and life experiences, where all are welcomed. We are also a community of women sharing the common thread of being new to Nanaimo. As such, we develop an environment of advocacy and support: a sense of belonging, which cultivates friendships.

Our Core Values

2020/2021 – Until further notice general monthly meetings are held online via Zoom. In normal times our monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 4235 Departure Bay Road. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. We invite you to register, meet our greeters, visit with some of our members, find out a little more about our club, and see the variety of activities we offer.

Meetings are informal, usually with a speaker or activity, a very short business meeting, followed by a coffee and chat time. There is always time to share ideas, join an activity, make new acquaintances, and connect with others.

While the Club does not meet in July and August, many of our members continue to participate in a number of activities throughout the summer.

You are welcome to join if you have been a resident of Nanaimo or surrounding area for three years or less. You may attend one of our meetings and Coffee and Chat before deciding to become a member, or you may join at the first meeting and participate in everything!

Annual membership is $35 but during the pandemic September 2020 to June 2021 that fee has been reduced to $20.

Our members come from across Canada, indeed from all over the world. Many of our activities take place during the day, but there are also some evening and weekend events that allow those who want an opportunity to participate.
