About Us

Who We Are

Nanaimo Newcomers' Club members taking to the waves

The Nanaimo Newcomers’ Club is a non-denominational, non-profit social group for all women who have moved to Nanaimo and area within the last three years. The club was launched in 1985 and run by an executive board and activity coordinators who are all volunteers.

We are listed members with the National Newcomers Association of Canada.

Our Purpose

The purpose of the Nanaimo Newcomers' Club is to welcome women who are new (within the last three years) to the Nanaimo area to share common interests, foster friendships, and encourage the development of a sense of community through social interaction in a variety of activities. This is an unalterable women-only club.

Our Core Values

The club meets in a spirit of collaboration. We work together and socialize together, with each member having an equal opportunity to participate and communicate her ideas. We treat each other with respect and dignity. The club is comprised of diverse women representing a range of cultures, beliefs, age and life experiences, where all are welcomed. We are also a community of women sharing the common thread of being new to Nanaimo. As such, we develop an environment of advocacy and support: a sense of belonging, which cultivates friendships.

Meetings

General meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Departure Bay Road.  The doors open at 6:45 p.m. We invite you to get registered, talk to our greeters, visit with some of our members, find out a little more about our club and see the variety of activities we offer.

Meetings are informal, usually with a speaker or activity, a short business meeting, followed by a coffee and chat time. There is always time to share ideas, join an activity, make new acquaintances and reconnect with others.

While the Club does not meet in July and August, many of our members continue to participate in a number of activities throughout the summer.
